About Phinomenon

Phinomenon is built by browser and cloud veterans: our founders are behind FydeOS (a Chromium-based OS trusted by millions) and QingCloud (one of China's earliest API-first IaaS platforms, founded in 2012). Fresh off a healthy, eight-figure Series A raise, we have the runway to dream big without panicking about next week's payroll. With folks working from San Francisco, London, Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, we are proudly global and friendly to your time zone, with overlapping hours so we can all actually talk. We ship fast and ship hard, but burnout is so last decade: we bake in wellness stipends, mandatory recharge days and flexible schedules, because great code comes from healthy lives. No timecards, no surveillance software, no weekend team-building. We'd rather hand you the best tools money can buy (Claude Max, ChatGPT Business and Cursor Ultra come standard) and trust you with them. We don't fetishise years of experience, degrees or big-tech logos, and fresh graduates are more than welcome: show us what you have built and how you think. If you want to build the nextgen browser that actually, you know, gets you, while still enjoying your evenings and maintaining upright posture, welcome home.

About the Role

As a C/C++ Engineer at Phinomenon, you'll work directly in the Chromium source, contributing to rendering pipelines, performance optimisations, and AI model integrations. You'll collaborate with browser, AI, and infrastructure teams to push features from code to execution, keeping our browser fast, reliable, and scalable at every level.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Chromium internals: rendering engine, IPC, networking, and memory management
  • Integrate AI-powered components and protocol hooks within Chromium's existing architecture
  • Optimize code paths for performance, latency, and resource usage at scale
  • Debug cross-platform issues across Windows, Linux, and macOS
  • Take part in code reviews and refactorings, and keep test coverage honest
  • Work closely with QA to automate testing and build continuous integration pipelines
  • Help land build integrations, packaging, sandboxing, and platform compliance

Requirements

  • Serious modern C++ and system-level coding chops, the kind you only get from real production battles.
  • Deep understanding of multi-process architecture, IPC, memory management, and concurrency
  • Experience with performance profiling, debugging (gdb/lldb/perf), and CI tools
  • Comfortable with cross-platform development across Windows, macOS, and Linux
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and skilled at collaborating in a remote-first team
  • Patches and postmortems beat credentials: a gnarly open-source diff or a personal systems project tells us more than any resume line

Nice to Have

  • Proven experience navigating and modifying the Chromium (or Blink/WebKit) codebase
  • Background in building browsers, extensions, or Electron apps
  • Familiarity with AI/ML model integrations or inference engines in native code
  • Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/UDP/QUIC) or custom protocol stacks
  • Exposure to sandboxing, security hardening, or custom build systems
