Phi 2.15.0
Phi Browser 2.15 keeps an eye out in a few new places. Phi now warns you about phishing emails in your webmail, a new Skill goes looking for promo codes with Black Friday on the way, and sync gains the controls you need to start over. Phi also moves to Chromium 156, keeping close pace with upstream. And many of the smaller changes came from you: thank you to everyone who sent us feedback. We read it, we listened, and more of it made it into this release than we have room to list.
An email "from X" said our Phi Browser 2.5.0 post broke its rules: click "Review details" or lose visibility. Typo in the headline and all, it got us. Phishing now quotes your own posts back at you, so Phi checks the mail you open in Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo Mail and speaks up, with a reason, only when something's off. The message text goes to a fast decision making AI model. It's on by default, and you can turn it off in Settings.
Black Friday is coming. The cart is full, the checkout page has a box labeled "Promo code," and you have nothing to put in it. Open sidebar chat on that page, pick the promo code Skill with a slash, and your assistant goes looking for codes for what you're buying. You can also paste a product link into the chat and ask from anywhere.
Nebula, in Memory, now tells stories. It connects your recent memories into short stories about what you've been up to, and each story has a thumbs up and a thumbs down, so you can tell it when it read you right and when it wildly overreached.
Sync gets the controls for when merging isn't what you want. When you pair two devices, you can now have one device's data replace the other's instead of merging them; the replaced device's synced data is deleted. Reset sync, available from the last device on your account, deletes all of your synced data from our servers, while bookmarks, Spaces and settings stay on your Mac. Deleting your Phi account now deletes your synced data as well.
If you keep a lot of everything, 2.15 should feel lighter. Bookmarks, long tab lists in the sidebar, and duplicating or closing many tabs at once all respond faster when there's a lot of them. New users also roll a card for their starting theme color until they like one.
If your new tab is set to open the Omnibox, a new window or a Space with no open tabs now does the same instead of showing a New Tab Page, and the page behind the Omnibox responds on the first click. Thanks to the user who wrote in and pointed out exactly where the two settings disagreed.
We've also tightened the security model of Phi's AI stack. Special thanks to the security researcher who reported an issue to us privately and responsibly: we appreciate your help.
Elsewhere, Kiosk windows opened from another app now get focus straight away, and if you close one without switching windows, you're back in the app you came from. Both were requested on GitHub. There are also improvements to Peek View, theme colors and Phi Chat, and fixes for a few crashes and for the sidebar during full-screen video.
A browser gets trusted with a lot: your mail, your accounts, your cart on the biggest shopping weekend of the year. Most of this release is about deserving that. Phi speaks up when something looks off, stays out of the way when nothing does, and gets better when you tell us what's wrong.
