Themes & Appearance
Phi lets you set how the browser looks — a color theme plus a light or dark choice — and it carries across the whole browser rather than one screen. Pick a look once and the window, the sidebar, and your new tab all follow it.
You will find these controls in Settings → General.
Choosing a theme
Under Theme, the Color row offers a set of named presets, shown as color swatches. Each is a full color scheme with its own light and dark versions, so a theme looks right whichever appearance you are in.
These are Phi's built-in theme accent colors:
| Preset | Light | Dark |
|---|---|---|
| Pure (default) | #3aa4d5 | #1e7099 |
| Mint | #73bd4b | #48802a |
| Mist | #57aed9 | #1e7099 |
| Aqua | #4bb9bd | #2a7d80 |
| Iris | #6357d9 | #3d339c |
| Petal | #b857d9 | #82339c |
| Coral | #d95757 | #9c3e3e |
| Amber | #d9b857 | #9c8133 |
In Phi's picker, Pure is displayed as a white swatch with the blue accent as its selection ring. The table above shows the actual accent colors the theme uses elsewhere.
Next to the colors, an Opacity slider controls how much the colored layer shows through the window — dial the tint up for more color, or down for something closer to plain.
Light, dark, or system
Appearance is a separate choice from the theme's color. Under Color appearance you can pick:
- System — follow your macOS setting and switch with it.
- Light — always light.
- Dark — always dark.
Your chosen theme keeps its character in either mode; this just decides which version of it you see.
Where the theme shows up
A theme is applied across the browser, not a single surface:
- The window — the toolbar, address bar, and tabs take on the theme color. The Opacity slider sets how strong that tint is.
- The sidebar — selected and hovered tabs pick up the theme.
- The new tab — your new tab follows the same theme automatically, so it matches the rest of the browser; change themes and it repaints along with everything else.
- Selected text on web pages — by default, highlighting text on a page tints the selection with your theme color. If you would rather pages keep their own native selection color, turn off Apply theme to text selection on web pages in the Theme settings.
